Girl who was born again on the mountain

First of all, I want to thank willofsteel site for showcasing a lot of unsung heroes. Most of their stories were heart touching while I am hearing about it for the first time. I always wonder why India doesn't produce Benthany Hamilton or Corporal Todd Love. Finally, when I read about Arunima Sinha's Mount Everest climb; I stand and salute her. I would like to share her story, which will inspire anyone reading this post.

Arunima  was a national-level volleyball player. On 11th April 2011, She boarded the Padmavat Express train at Lucknow in-order to pursuit her CISF examination. She was pushed out of the train by the robbers wanting to snatch her bag. She falls down on the railway track. Immediately, there was another train on parallel track. She gains her conscious and tried to move, but by then it crushed her leg below the knee. She was rushed into the hospital. The Doctors decide to remove the leg which will save her life. Indian railways paid a compensation of five lakh to her.

When she was being treated in AIIMS, she resolved to achieve big things. She was inspired by cricketer Yuvaraj Singh, who battled cancer successfully. She did a course of basic mountaineering from Nehru Institute, Uttarkashi. She has also undergone a training from the former Mount Everest climber, Bachendra Pal. Omprakash, her elder brother encourages her to pursue her dream. She climbed Island Peak (6150 metres) as a trial to Mount Everest.

On 1 April 2013, she and her TSAF instructor started their expedition on the Mount Everest. She reaches the summit of the Everest on 21 May 2013. It took her 52 days to reach the top. She claims that the final 17 hours have been very tough. She also becomes the first female amputee to scale Everest. She quoted right after this incident "It was my tribute to Shankar bhagwan and Swami Vivekananda who has been an inspiration throughout my life." She receives various awards, including Padmashri, the fourth highest Indian civilian award.

Akhilesh Yadav, chief minister of Uttar Pradesh quoted that "It was her hardwork and determination that made history." He also handed a cheque of 25 lakh for her achievement. She wrote a book "Born again on the mountain" about her inspirational story, which was launched by our honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It was available in shopping sites amazon and flipkart. I have already ordered it. If possible, you guys also buy and read it. Vote for her and support the event.

I’m voting for Arunima Sinha’s #WillOfSteel and blogging on BlogAdda to help him/her get felicitated and eventually enabled by JSW.

    1. Arunima proves inability was only in body not in mind. If it was in Hollywood, they might took this as a feature film. I hope Bollywood will try it. :)

JSW is always the best and I hope they should conduct a lot of contests like this.
